Novo Nordisk is DTU's new Corporate Partner. The collaboration will support Novo Nordisk in their comprehensive digital transformation, focusing on their production activities, their medical product development, and the need for new digital competencies

Novo Nordisk - a global healthcare company with pioneering scientific breakthroughs - has decided to engage in a new strategic partnership with DTU to strengthen their digital competencies. Novo Nordisk employs more than 45,000 people around the world and have a history of investing in cutting-edge technologies. With the new strategic partnership, Novo Nordisk wishes to build on mutual synergies between DTU and Novo Nordisk to develop future life science talents.

It is an imperative for Novo Nordisk to utilize the benefits of the digital age properly in their operations to stay relevant and maintain their market leader position. The use of automation and robot technology is thus rapidly increasing in their development and production of medical products. DTU ranks #7 worldwide within biotechnology and applied microbiology, and have significant strength in connecting biological disciplines with digitalization to develop new medical products, health technology and bio-production. Together, the new Corporate Partners will generate research that contributes to personal medicine, personal patient care, and quicker digital bio-production.

The partners will also focus on developing a new kind of in-house lab profile that holds a combination of digital and subject-specific skills, e.g. a person in the production team who has data science skills in combination with a biological or chemical professional competency. The increased digitalization within production motivates a need for new skills in the production team; digitalization generates massive amounts of data, which need to be treated, analyzed, and programmed. To fully utilize the potentials of the digital age, Novo Nordisk must have employees who know how to handle data in the right biological context.

DTU Bioengineering, DTU HealthTech, DTU Chemical Engineering and DTU Compute are the main strategizing departments in the collaboration between Novo Nordisk and DTU.
